Monroe, La. (Men & Women's Cross Country) —Grambling State University freshman sprinter Aaron Koech raced past the University of Louisiana at Monroe runners in a dual men's cross country meet winning first place at the Warhawk Invitational on Friday night.
Koech, in his first collegiate mee,t posted a 16:36 time in the men's race to pace the Warhawks event. The Tigers placed two runners in the top four and four runners in the top 10. Southwestern Athletic Conference men's cross country champion
Hassan Chepkwony finished nine seconds from Koech, placing him in fourth place (16:45). Sophomore Jeremiah Kimeli took seventh place with a time of 17:19 and freshman Noah Ruguet placed ninth (17:35). As a team, Grambling complied 32 team points.
On the women's side, sophomore
Halima Chepkwony narrowly missed the top 10 earning a 21:36 time ending in an 11th place finish. She placed 11 spots ahead of the nearest Lady Tigers sprinter. The Grambling women placed third with a no team score at the Warhawk Invitational.
The Tiger men and women's team will compete at the Louisiana Tech University Mook Invitational in Ruston on Saturday, September 17, at 8am.
