Fort Worth, Texas---The Grambling State Lady Tigers Volleyball team struggled in their season opener this past weekend as they went 0-3 in the TCU Tournament falling to UConn, Texas Tech and host TCU.
In game one the Lady Tigers fell 8-25, 18-25 and 15-25 to the Lady Huskies of UConn.
Tiara McIver and MiKeya Edwards led the GSU attack with five and four kills respectively, while DaVarika Johnson recorded 11 digs and eight assists. Connecticut's Jordan Kirk had 15 kills and 10 digs to lead the Lady Huskies. Jackie Wattles and Mattison Quayle had 11 and 10 kills respectively.
On day two the Lady Tigers got off to a rough start falling to host TCU 11-25, 11-25 and 9-25.
Dorothy Brown and Edwards recorded three kills each to lead the Lady Tigers. Johnson had seven assists and four digs. For the Lady Horned Frogs Kristen Hester, Yvonne Igodan and Mattie Burelson recorded six kills apiece.
In their final game of the tournament the Lady Tigers could never get on track as they fell 25-11, 25-19 and 25-13 to Texas Tech. Grambling was once again led by McIver with four kills. Texas Tech's Mikia Mills and Sam Podraza recorded eight kills each. Breeann David had seven kills and eight digs.
The Lady Tigers return to action this weekend as they head to Las Cruses, New Mexico to face New Mexico State in a two-game series.
