Thibodeaux, LA---The Grambling State Lady Tigers volleyball team suffered two losses this weekend, 1-3 to Alabama A&M and 1-3 to ULM, in the Bayou Invitational Volleyball Tournament hosted by Nicholls State.
On opening day of the tournament the Lady Tigers took on familiar faces in Southwestern Athletic Conference foe Alabama A&M. Though falling in split sets 19-25, 25-22, 18-25 and 21-25 the Lady Tigers continue to show improvement having won their first game of a match this season. Grambling was led by
Tiara McIver's nine kills and 14 digs; wile Mikeya Edwards added six kills and two digs. The Lady Bulldogs Clarissa Moore had a game high 15 kills with five digs. Karensa Beckford added 13 kills and seven digs.
In game two the Lady Tigers efforts remained relentless in their best showing of the season. Though out matched by their I-20 rivals ULM, the Lady Tigers effort remained intact in the split set loss as they fell 16-25, 25-22, 18-25 and 21-25. McIver once again led the GSU offensive assault with 11 kills and eight digs; while
DaVarika Johnson added 18 assists and 13 digs. ULM was led by Zuzana Markova with 19 kills, 21 assists and 12 digs.
The Lady Tigers will return to action Tuesday when they began conference play at Prairie View A&M.
