Rafael Ramirez, III was named the Grambling State University Co-Male Student-Athlete of the Week.
Ramirez put up amazing numbers in the only Grambling State baseball game last week. He went 3-for-3, with three runs scored and six RBIs, along with a solo homer and a Grand Slam (his second in a five-day stretch), as the Tigers defeated Alcorn State 15-2. The San Antonio, Texas native, who was not selected the Southwestern Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week, batted 1.000, had a 1.000 on-base percentage and a 3.000 slugging percentage in his perfect game at the plate.
Over the last two weeks, Ramirez has been on fire at the plate by going 10-for-19, with 17 RBIs, 10 runs scored, two walks, one double and five home runs (including a pair of Grand Slams). He ranks first in the conference in five categories (home runs, home runs per game, RBIs, RBIs per game and slugging percentage) and ranks inside the top five nationally in four categories (RBIs, RBIs per game, slugging percentage and home runs per game). In addition, the sophomore leads all of NCAA Division I in Runs Batted In per game.
