GRAMBLING---The Grambling State Lady Tigers softball team dropped their final home series of the season 2-1 to the Lady Golden Lions of the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff this weekend losing 2-1 on Friday and splitting a doubleheader today winning 2-0 before falling 7-4.
In the series opener the Lady Tigers
Victoria Heath scored their lone run in the second after reaching base on a walk. Grambling carried the lead into the sixth inning when UAPB brought two across after an error by left fielder
Kiara Dedeaux. That would prove to be all of the offense the visitors needed as the Lady Tigers would put only one person on base over the final three innings.
Grambling's
Latrice Wood went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead all batters;
Angela Perez received the loss after pitching a complete game allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits with nine strike outs.
The Lady Golden Lions spread their five hits over as many players. Emilee Gwyn and Tanisha Bradford scored their two runs. Heather Leigh picked up the win in four and two-thirds inning of relief work.
In game two the Lady Tigers picked up the only run they needed in the fourth inning when
Rosanna Alvarado singled and scored on a double by Perez.
Jassitte Richardson would add an insurance run in the sixth as Grambling ended a nine game losing streak.
The Lady Tigers eked out four hits while only committing one error. Perez received the win in another complete game performance with six strikeouts.
UAPB managed only three singles with two errors. Leigh suffered the loss in six innings of work.
In the night cap UAPB jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first, however, Grambling responded with three runs in their half of the inning after loading bases and scoring on an Alvarado single and sacrifice fly by Perez. The Lady Golden Lady Lions added a run in the second before the Lady Tigers would bring in their final run in the fourth when
Taylour Smith singled and scored on a single by Wood.
Raven Turner led the Lady Tigers at the plate going 2-for-4. Perez threw a complete game in the loss.
UABP was led at the plate by Bradford who went 2-for-4 with two RBI's while scoring two runs. Leigh picked up her second win of the weekend in relief.
