Box Score LAFAYETTE -- The GSU Lady Tigers are off to a slow start this season after 3 back-to-back road losses, bringing their record to 0-3 after traveling to Lafayette to play the Lady Ragin' Cajuns, a team with a record of 6-2-1.
Though Grambling State lost, the team's defense held ULL at 3-0 at the half. Goal keeper
Damilola Akano managed 11 saves with UL's 26 shot attempts. Another key player from Grambling was junior
Jennifer LeSage, who attempted a shot for the Tigers and played aggressively on offense and defense.
With an impressive hat trick from Annika Schmidt of the Ragin' Cajuns, the Lady Tigers fell short of a victory.
Lady Tigers head coach Totty O. Totty isn't letting the lost get him and the team down. He chose to open against teams such as Louisiana Tech and ULM to better prepare his team for SWAC conference opponents. Non-conference games are no less important to Totty, and he said what's most important is the next game.
"Every game is important to us," the coach said. "This season is a marathon, not a sprint. We want to peak at the right time. In the tournament we want to be at our best."
Totty and the Lady Tigers resume played Friday (September 25) in Houston for their first SWAC conference match against Texas Southern University, losing 7-1.
