GRAMBLING, La. (Women's Soccer) -- The Grambling State University Lady Tiger soccer team overcame adversity and earned their first win of the 2016 season. The Lady Tigers did battle with Alcorn State and soundly defeated the Lady Braves in spite of the rain, 3-2.
WIth the win, Grambling improves to 1-8, overall, and 1-6 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Alcorn drops to 1-8, overall, and 1-5 in league play.
Florence David was the marquee Lady Tigers in the game as she scored two of three goals for Grambling. Her first goal came at the 19:17 mark. GSU's second goal was scored by
Helen Ayim off of a corner kick at the 34:15 mark. David's second goal was set up by
Kaitlin Pardy's free kick at the 51:49 mark.
The Lady Braves only goal of the day was scored by Rita Okoro with an assist from
Viktoriya Mihaylova at 42:28.
Jennifer LeSage had a prolific day in the net for the Lady Tigers as she racked up 10 saves for the game. Alcorn has two goalies for the game, Nahvia Rodriguez and Taylor Linney, they combined for six saves.
Grambling has their last home game of the season and Senior Day on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Lady Tiger Field. The GSU Athletics Department will host the senior presentation at 11:30 a.m.
