Box Score Two games, two wins. Grambling State University reached the .500 mark for the first time this season Saturday (April 16) with a couple of wins to clinch the weekend series against Manhattan Christian College.

GSU (17-17, 11-4 SWAC) slipped past Manhattan Christian 3-2 in the second game of the Saturday double header at Wilbert Ellis Field at RWE Jones Park. The Tigers pounded MCC in the first game, 11-0 as Tanner Raiburn threw a no hitter and seven strikeouts.

Pitcher Issac O'Bear did a superb job on the mound in the second game, including 10 strikeouts. He threw 10 strikeouts against the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff  April 1.

After the game, O'Bear downplayed his performance. "I wasn't feeling it," he said. "The reason I was able to perform was because of preparation each week."

Compared to his 11 strikeouts against the Southern University Jaguars recently, Raiburn said the Manhattan Christian win was just another game. "I expect to do that," he said. "The Southern game was a bigger game for us. Also it was against Southern, our bitter rival."

Trailing 2-0 in the second game, Grambling State second basemen Larry Barraza singled to bring home Wesley Drain for GSU'S first score.  In the sixth inning, first basemen Tray Bell hit a RBI single, scoring Darien Brown to tie the game at 2-2. Drain banged a sacrifice fly to bring home Bell, giving GSU the game 3-2.

GSU will conclude the series with Manhattan Christian Sunday (April 17)  at noon at Ellis Field on the Grambling State campus. ??
