GRAMBLING, La. (Men's Basketball) -- Coach
Shawn Walker and the Grambling State University men's basketball will go on the road to face off against Texas Southern University on Saturday, Jan. 14.
The Tigers look to ride the wave of their win over the Braves of Alcorn State University on Monday night. Grambling was able to withstand the barrage that Alcorn brought and snatched the victory with a score of 67-62.
Against the Braves,
Ervin Mitchell was the leader as he racked up 20 points. Mitchell had help as Avery Ugba followed him with 19 points and nine boards.
Remond Brown,
Nigel Ribeiro, Ugba and Mitchell have to be clicking for Grambling to come away with the win in Houston. Currently, all four players top the team in points per game and will have to be on all cylinders to ensure a Grambling win. Mitchell is the leader averaging 17.3 points while Brown is second averaging 14.1 points. Ugba is third on the list with 11.5 points per game and Ribeiro is fourth with 10.2 points. The Tigers will also have to be better from the free throw stripe to seal the victory.
Grambling will have to contain Texas Southern's Zach Lofton and Demontrae Jefferson. Lofton leads the TSU Tigers averaging 17.1 points and Jefferson is second averaging 15 points. Ugba and
Noah Cummings will have to contend with Marvin Jones in the paint. Currently, Jones leads Texas Southern with 5.7 rebounds per game and has tallied 11 blocks this season.
