G-Men Drop Game to Panthers

HOUSTON, Texas (Men's basketball) – The Grambling State University men's basketball team headed to Prairie View A&M University on Monday night to close out their Houston road trip. The Tigers fought hard but were unable to pull out win. Troy Thompson's split free throws with ten seconds left gave PVAMU the win, 94-82.

With the loss, Grambling drops to 7-12, overall, and 2-4 in Southwestern Athletic Conference. Prairie View moves to 5-14, overall, and 2-3 in conference play.

The Tigers came began the game with a bang but could not get a fire going. Missed opportunities and costly turnovers kept the G-Men out of the game.
Remond Brown led the way for Grambling with 25 points. Avery Ugba was the leading rebounder with six boards. Nigel Ribiero led Grambling in assists with four and steals with two.

The team was 48.4 percent from field goal range, 30.4 percent from the three point arc, and 71.4 percent from the free throw line.

Prairie View had three players with 20 points or more on the night. Zachary Hamilton was the leading scorer with 30 points. Hamilton was also the leading rebounder for the Panthers with six. Thompson finished the game with 23 points. Tevin Bellinger recorded a double-double of 20 points and 11 assists.  

The team was 60 percent from the field, 45.5 percent from three point range, and 60 percent from the stripe.

Grambling will take to the court again on Saturday, Jan. 21 at home in the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center as they face Jackson State University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
