GRAMBLING, La. (Softball) – The Grambling State University Lady Tiger softball team hosted Jarvis Christian College in a mid-week home match up on Tuesday afternoon. Grambling swept the Lady Bulldogs, 2-0, and ended both games in the five innings.
With the victories, GSU improves 9-19 on the season. JCC drops to 4-15, overall.
In game one, the Lady Tigers came out swinging and quickly started a scoring spree. The Lady Bulldogs never caught their footing and were left behind.
Tia Coleman and
Kenyshae Beasley carried the heavy bats for GSU going 2-of-3 at the plate. Beasley led the team with three runs scored.
Hailey Haynes was the dependable hitter as she finished with a team high three runs batted in (RBI).
Caitlin McDowell (7-9) snapped up the win in the circle for the Lady Tigers with five innings for two hits and four strike outs.
Aliera Dean (0-1) suffered the loss for JCC with four innings pitched for nine hits, six earned runs, three walks, and four strike outs.
Game two started out quite differently as the Lady Bulldogs capitalized on crucial errors and scored a total five runs by the top of third innings. GSU quickly recovered and began to swing away on JCC's pitches. Grambling scored a total of 10 runs in the second and third innings to gain a commanding lead of 11-5.
The Lady Tigers resumed their scoring barrage in the bottom of the fourth inning with four runs scored.
Allye Hartley was the hitter for GSU going 3-of-3 at the plate for two runs and two runs batted in.
Brea Aikens finished with the most runs with three and Haynes had a team hit three RBI.

Alexus Brown (2-5) picked up the win for Grambling with five innings pitched for five hits, two earned runs, two walks, and four strike outs.
Adele Suarez (0-1) took the loss for Jarvis Christian with two innings pitched for 12 hits, five earned runs, two walks, and two strike outs.
GSU will be in action at Lady Tiger Field on Friday and Saturday in Southwestern Athletic Conference play against Jackson State University. First pitch for Friday is set for 3 p.m. and for Saturday's doubleheader at noon.
