GRAMBLING, La. (Softball) -- The Grambling State University softball team took to the diamond against the University of Arkansas - Pine Bluff top open their weekend series on Friday. The Lady Tigers put up a good fight but were defeated by the Lady Panthers, 6-2.
With the loss, GSU drops to 11-22 and 1-6 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. Arkansas - Pine Bluff moves to 9-21, overall, and 3-4 in conference play.
Grambling's lone two runs came from
Kenyshae Beasley in the bottom of the third and fifth innings. The first run came when
Hailey Haynes flew out to left field to score Beasley, 3-1. Beasley crossed home plate again as Haynes reached first base on an error.
The Lady Tigers were led in hitting by Haynes as she went 1-of- 3 for two runs batted in. Beasley was the lead baserunner with two runs and one stolen base.
Caitlin McDowell suffered the loss for GSU with a complete game for 11 hits, four earned runs, four walks, and two strike outs.
UAPB's Angelique Ramos picked up the win with a complete game for six hits, one earned run, and two strike outs.
