GRAMBLING, La. (Men's basketball) – On Tuesday night, the No. 5 seeded Grambling State University Tiger basketball shocked the No. 4 Prairie View A&M University Panthers, 81-77, and eliminated the team from the Southwestern Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament.

Ervin Mitchell put on a scoring clinic for the G-Men with 24 points and going 8-of-10 from the field. Remond Brown added 16 points. Avery Ugba led the team in rebounds with eight.

The Tigers will play No. 1 Texas Southern University in a semi-final game in the SWAC men's basketball tournament on Friday, March 10 at 2:30 p.m.

In their last contest against Texas Southern, Grambling dropped the game at home, 77-70. Ubga went off with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds. Brown racked up 17 points and Mitchell added 14.

TSU meets the Tigers after a 87-72 victory over Alabama State University in SWAC quarterfinal action. Trae Jefferson scored a career high 28 points while Marvin Jones went 5-of-5 from the field. Jones also racked up 10 boards.

During the last meeting between the two teams, Texas Southern's Zach Lofton was the leading scorer with 23 points. Dulani Robinson led the team in rebounds with six. GSU will have to stop Lofton and Trae Jefferson as they anchor TSU in scoring averaging 17.9 points and 14.4 points, respectively. Ugba and Jones will do battle on the boards as Jones is averaging 6.6 boards a game.
