GRAMBLING, La. (Baseball) -- After Grambling State University captured their first home victory of the season, the Tigers dropped the final two games of a double header Saturday to Prairie View A&M University. GSU was defeated with a score of 10-0 in 7 innings in game one and 7-5 in game two at Wilbert Ellis Field.
Game One
Grambling State struggled to hit the baseball notching one hit in the game. Second baseman Kris Franklin earned the lone hit, he finished 1-for-1. Tigers pitcher Issac O'bear picked up the loss, he pitched five complete innings with two strikeouts and faced 28 batters. Danial Wilson ended the game on the mound for GSU he pitching the final two innings.
PV leading 1-0, heading into the fourth inning pushed past GSU with a three-run inning. Brashad Jones singled and later stole second base. Avery Williams singled and Xavier Jefferson reached base on a catcher's interference and the base were loaded. Cody Den Beste grounded out but earned a RBI, bringing in Jones. Carson Lee hit a RBI single and Jefferson scored. Williams scored the last run of the inning of a Tyrone Thomas single and PV led 5-0.
Game Two
In game two third baseman Wesley Drain played big time going 3-for-4 with two runs. First baseman Daniel Barnett, DH Tray Bell and second baseman Kris Franklin joined the joined the hitting club. Barnett went 2-for-5, scoring two runs with one RBI, Bell hit 2-for-3 with one RBI and was walked once, Franklin went 2-for-3, with two RBI's and reached base twice on walks.
Grambling State played their best baseball in the third inning scoring three runs to take a 4-0 led. Drain led on the inning with a single. Barnett hit a rocket off the left field wall for a double. Bell knocked a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Drain. Nick Wheeler blasted a pitch to the outfield for a double and Barnett scored. Franklin RBI single brought Wheeler home and Grambling State was in control 4-0.
The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday, April 4 as they travel to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La. for a mid week match up. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
