TEXARKANA, Tex. – Freshman forward
Kaylee Holt only had to wait 24 minutes into her Lady Tiger career to score a goal that would eventually lead the Grambling State women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Texas A&M University-Texarkana on Friday morning.
This is the first time in at least the last eight seasons that GSU has won a season-opening match.
Holt scored from 20 yards out on a shot to the far post. Junior defender
Florence David and senior forward
Janee Harris were credited with assists on the goal.
As a team, GSU (1-0) took 20 shots, 12 on goal, with a whopping 14 shots coming in the first 45 minutes.
The Lady Tiger defense also played very well, limiting TAMUT to just one shot.
Freshman goalie
Jordan Woodward spent all 90 minutes in goal and had one save while picking up her first win.
The Lady Tigers have no time to rest as they return home to host New Mexico State at 5 p.m. on Saturday at the GSU Soccer Complex.
