Box Score MOBILE, Ala. | The Grambling State University women's tennis team picked up its first victory over the season on Saturday afternoon with a 7-2 victory over Spring Hill College.
 
"I am very proud of the outstanding effort of all five ladies today in a hard-fought win over Spring Hill College, especially after starting the match down 2-0," Grambling State head women's tennis coach Kenneth Myers said. "We were tied 2-2 heading into singles play needing to win at least three of five singles matches to win the match. The ladies came through strong winning all five singles, giving us good momentum going into the SWAC round up next weekend. They have been working really hard on some key fundamentals through the last three weeks of cancellations & postponements due to bad weather and it showed today."
 
Grambling State (1-4) captured No. 1 doubles as Yuliia Popova and Danna Galeano defeated Madison Artigues and Rebecca Pearlman, 8-4. The team of Idah Longwe and Keren Happuch Muswere blanked Elizabeth Peters and Brenda Carrada, 8-0 as Grambling State took a 2-1 advantage into singles action.
 
In singles play, Happuch Muswere defeated Artigues, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 and Popova and beat Pearlman, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2. Longwe blanked Carrada, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, while Tanyaradzwa Magunje picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Alexandria Rayford. Galeno gave Grambling State the win at No. 5 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Jasmine Agadzi.

Grambling State returns to action on Friday, Feb. 23 in the SWAC Round-Up as the Lady Tigers play Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 9 a.m., followed by a 2 p.m. match against Alcorn State.
