MIAMI, Fla. | The Grambling State University baseball team had the bases loaded with one out in the eighth and could not plate any runs as Florida International (FIU) opened the three-game non-conference series with a 3-0 victory over the Tigers on Friday night at FIU Baseball Stadium.
Grambling State (3-3) fell behind 1-0 in the first inning when Austin Shenton doubled and advanced to third on the throw. After a fly out by Diandre Amion, Shenton scored on a wild pitch to break the 0-0 tie and give FIU the early lead.
The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the third when the Panthers got a lead-off base hit by Shenton and after a fly out by Amion, Christian Khawam singled to pushed Shenton to third. Adan Fernandez walked to load the bases and Lorenzo Hampton singled to bring Shelton in to score.
The Tigers loaded the bases in the top half of the eighth, but came away empty handed.
Chris Campbell opened the frame with a walk and with one down,
Marshawn Taylor singled. With runners on the corners,
D'Quan Matthews drew a base on balls to load the bases.
Richard Ortiz and
Trevin Bolden struck out to end the Grambling State threat.
FIU (2-2) capitalized in the bottom of the inning as the Panthers scored an unearned run to take a 3-0 advantage into the ninth.
Grambling State put two runs on base in the top of the ninth when
Ace Felder singled and Campbell was hit by a pitch with two outs. With two on and the tying run at the plate,
Drexler Macaay pinch hit for Rafael Ramirez III and he ended the game by striking out.

· Grambling State finished with three hits and stranded nine base runners.

Ace Felder each recorded one hit.

Raul Baduel (0-1) pitched six solid innings and took the loss for the Tigers. He surrendered two runs on eight hits, fanned five and walked three.

Andy Escano worked two innings in relief and gave up one hit, with one strikeout.
· FIU registered nine hits and left eight on base.
· Austin Shenton, Adan Fernandez and Lorenzo Hampton each had a pair of hits.
· Christian Khawam and Javier Valdes and Eddie Silva each recorded one hit.
· The Panthers used five pitchers as Tyler Myrick (1-0) started and worked five innings. He fanned seven and walked two.
· Christian Santana, Everett Hurst, Gio Soto and William Saxton pitched in relief.

· The Tigers dropped its first road game of the season (Andre Dawson Classic was a neutral series).
· The loss snapped a three-game Grambling State winning streak.
· Grambling State and FIU met for the first time in series history.
