Lady Tigers win two matches at SWAC West Round-Up

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 BATON ROUGE, La. | The Grambling State University women's tennis team claimed two victories at the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) West Round-Up, hosted by Southern University, over the weekend.
 
The Lady Tigers (3-5 overall, 2-1 SWAC) captured 4-0 and 6-0 wins over Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Mississippi Valley State, respectively. The lone loss came to Alcorn State (4-1).
 
Against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Danna Galeano defeated Kendale Howard, 6-0, 6-0 to give GSU a quick 1-0 lead. Tanyaradzwa Magunje blanked Kaitlyn Hapke, 6-0, 6-0 and Keren Happuch Muswere bested Amira Ali, 6-0, 6-0 to put the Lady Tigers on the verge of winning the match. Idah Longwe clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Taylor Shaw.
 
Grambling State made it three straight victories in its next match with a 6-0 victory over Mississippi Valley State.
 
Galeno got things started with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Traci Carter and Happuch Muswere blanked DeAlma Cole, 6-0, 6-0. Longwe beat Maya Murray, 6-0, 6-0, while Yuliia Popova clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Jailynn May. Bryttish Burts defeated Shaneka Hubbard, 6-0, 6-1, while Magunje won by default over Jassalyn Miller.
 
Against Alcorn State, Popova beat Alessandra Maganuco, 6-2, 6-4, but the Lady Braves picked up victories at No. 1, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 to claim the victory.
 
Up Next
The Lady Tigers are tentatively set to visit Natchitoches, La. on March 2 and 4 to play Sam Houston State on Friday and Lamar on Sunday.
