Big inning lifts LSU past Grambling State

BATON ROUGE, La.| The Grambling State University baseball team built a 3-1 lead over five innings, but No. 14 LSU exploded for six runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally for 10-3 victory on Tuesday night at Skip Bertman Field.
 
Grambling State (4-5) struck for one run on one hit in the first inning as GSU took advantage of three walks to get the early 1-0 lead.
 
Chris Campbell began the game with a walk and advanced to second when Marshawn Taylor reached on a one-out single through the right side. Richard Ortiz followed with a walk to load the bases and Isaiah Torres drew a base on balls to bring Campbell in from third, giving Grambling State a 1-0 lead.
 
Grambling State added to the lead in the second when Rafael Ramirez III doubled to the wall in right center and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Chris Perez. A wild pitch brought Ramirez home as GSU led, 2-0.
 
Grambling State continued to add to the advantage in the fourth as Ramirez doubled with one out. Perez followed with a walk and both runners advanced a base on a wild pitch. Campbell plated Ramirez with a sacrifice bunt on the suicide squeeze, giving GSU a 3-0 lead.
 
LSU (5-3) got a run back in the bottom of the fourth to cut the margin to 3-1.
 
LSU took the lead in the sixth as Christian Marquez was lifted for Andy Escano, LSU went right to work in the frame.
 
Antoine Duplantis led off the inning with a single through the left side and advanced to second on a ground out. Beau Jordan singled to right and advanced to second on an error as Duplantis stopped at third. Brice Jordan followed with a homer to left center to give LSU a 4-3 lead.
 
LSU broke the game open in the bottom of the seventh with six runs on seven hits, including a solo home run by Hal Hughes and a two-run homer by Austin Bain, to take a 10-3 lead.

* Marshawn Taylor and Rafael Ramirez each went 2-for-4.

* Daniel Cabrera worked the final inning in relief for LSU.
