GRAMBLING, La.| The Grambling State University softball team pounded out 28 runs on 17 hits during a Tuesday afternoon sweep of Texas College at the GSU Softball Complex.
The Lady Tigers (3-10), who snapped a six-game losing streak, took the opener, 11-3, in five innings and 17-3 in the second game.
GAME 1 (11-3 win)
Grambling State trailed 2-0 after one inning, but took advantage of four errors by Texas College, to grab a 3-2 lead.
The Lady Tigers used the momentum at the end of the second and carried it to the third as Grambling State plated five runs on four hits and took advantage of two errors.
Tia Coleman opened the frame and reached on an error.
Morgan Adams walked and
Allye Hartley was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Monique Smith singled to center as Coleman scored, but Adams was out on the play.
Versace Hicks-Butler followed with a single to center to score Hartley and
Tiffany Doss plated Smith with a base hit to left. An error by the catch scored Hicks-Butler from third and
Hailey Haynes reached on an infield hit. With two on,
Kenyshae Beasley registered a sacrifice bunt as Doss scored to give Grambling State a commanding 8-2 lead.
The Lady Tigers didn't look back as GSU plated one run in the fourth and finished the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to pick up the win in five innings.
GAME 2 (17-3 win)
In the second game, Grambling State jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning, but the Lady Steers answered with three runs in the second to tie the game at 3.
However, the game would be tied for long as Grambling State used a 14-run outburst in the third inning as Haynes belted a three-run double and Adams smacked a solo shot to left. In an inning where the Lady Tigers put 14 runs on the board, Grambling State had just three hits, took advantage of two errors and capitalized on nine walks and three hit batters.

Caitlin McDowell picked up the win in five innings. She gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits, with four strikeouts and one walk.
* Lauren Gutierrez took the loss as she was tagged for 11 runs (four earned) on 10 hits, with a pair of strikeouts and two walks.

* The Lady Tigers finished the second game with seven hits and left three on base.

D'Maria Matthews worked three innings and surrendered three runs on three hits with two walks in getting a no decision.

Caitlin McDowell (3-3) earned the victory in one in of action with one strikeout.
* Valeria Villarreal took the loss as she surrendered 11 runs (nine earned) on six hits and walked seven.
* Lauren Gutierrez worked 0.2 innings in relief.

*Grambling State has won its last six games against Texas College, with a combined score of 91-12 in the past six meetings.
* After suffering through a six-game losing streak, Grambling State now is riding a two-game winning streak.
