Box Score 2 HAWKINS, Texas | The Grambling State University softball team returned to action after a seven-day layoff as the Lady Tigers swept a doubleheader over Jarvis Christian, 3-1 and 9-6, on Tuesday afternoon.

Grambling State (8-11) won the opener, 3-1, and rally in the second game to defeat Jarvis Christian, 9-6.

GAME 1 (3-1 win)
Grambling State plated two runs in the first inning to grab a quick 2-0 lead.
Â
With two down in the frame,
Tia Coleman was hit by a pitch and came around to score when
Morgan Adams tripled to right.
Allye Hartley followed with a base hit to left, scoring Adams from third to give the Lady Tigers a 2-0 advantage.

The Lady Bulldogs cut the deficit in half, 2-1, with a run in the fifth, but Grambling State answered with a run in the sixth when Monique Williams scored when Coleman singled to center.

GAME 2 (9-6 win)
In the nightcap, Grambling State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as
Mercedes Williams scored on a Hartley single and Coleman came in on a
Tayler Lenz-Selvera sacrifice fly to center.

Jarvis Christian answered in the bottom of the frame with four runs on three hits to grab a 4-2 advantage.

The Lady Tigers responded with two runs on two hits in the top of the second inning to tie the game at 4.
Â
The Lady Bulldogs plated one run in the third to grab a 5-4 advantage, but Grambling State scored one run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take a 7-5 lead.

The Lady Bulldogs added two more runs in the seventh as
Monique Smith doubled to right and stole third.
Tiffany Doss brought Smith in on a bunt and later scored when stealing third and coming across on an error.

Jarvis Christian tried to rally in the bottom of the frame with one run, but that wasn't enough as Grambling State completed the doubleheader sweep.

Inside The Numbers
· In the opener, Grambling State scored three runs on four hits, committed one error and left two on base.

Tia Coleman led the Lady Tigers at the plate by going 2-for-2, with one RBI and one run scored.

Morgan Adams and
Allye Hartley each recorded one hit.

Caitlin McDowell earned the victory in seven innings. She scattered eight hits and gave up one run.
· Jarvis Christian finished with one run on eight hits, with one error and stranded three base runners.
· Gabrielle Omichi-Quintero paced the Lady Bulldogs by going 2-for-3, with one RBI.
· Crystal Fagnana took the loss as she gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits, with four strikeouts.
· Gabrielle Omichi-Quintero paced the Lady Bulldogs by going 2-for-3, with one RBI.
· In the second game, Grambling State scored nine runs on 15 hits and left nine on base.

Hailey Haynes and
Monique Smith each went 3-for-4 to lead the Grambling State offense.

Allye Hartley, Tayler Lenz-Selvea and
Kenyshae Beasley each registered two hits.

Mercedes Williams,
Tia Coleman and
Tiffany Doss recorded one hit apiece.

D'Maria Matthews started in the circle for the Lady Tigers and gave up five runs on four hits, walked three and struck out one in the 3.2 innings.

Caitlin McDowell (6-3) came on in relief and worked 3.1 innings. She surrendered one run on one hit, with one walk.
· Graciella Becerra led Jarvis Christian at the plate by going 2-for-3, with one run scored and one run batted in.
· Aliera Dean was tagged for six runs on 11 hits, with one walk and one strikeout in 4.1 innings of work.
· Adela Saurez took the loss in 2.2 innings pitched. She was tagged for three runs (two earned) on four hits, walked one and fanned one.
