NACOGDOCHES, Texas | The Grambling State University baseball team began a stretch of four games in five days with a 14-3 loss to Stephen F. Austin at Jaycees Field on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Tigers (12-10) opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the first inning.
 
Cameron Shannon led off the game with a walk and advanced to third when Garrett Smith doubled to left. Marshawn Taylor brought Shannon in on a ground out to the shortstop to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead. Richard Ortiz followed with a base hit down the left field line to plate Smith as Grambling State led 2-0.
 
Stephen F. Austin (5-15) answered in the bottom of the second with three runs and took a 5-2 advantage with two runs in the third.
 
The Lumberjacks extended the lead to 9-2 with three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.
 
Stephen F. Austin put the game away in the seventh with five runs on five hits and took advantage of an error to take a 14-2 advantage.
 
Inside The Numbers
* Grambling State scored three runs on five hits, committed two errors and left three on base.
* Richard Ortiz led the Tigers offense by going 3-for-3, with two RBIs and one run scored.
* Richard Ortiz belted a solo homer in the ninth inning.
* Garrett Smith and Drexler Macaay each had one hit.
* Elijah Saunders (0-3) started on the rubber for Grambling State and gave up seven runs on five hits, with two walks and one strikeout in three innings pitched.
* Daniel Wilson, Kaelin Woodard and Andy Escano worked in relief.
* Stephen F. Austin finished with 14 runs on 15 hits, two errors and stranded seven base runners.
* Josh Evans, Eric DeJesus and Manny Vasquez paced the Lumberjack offense with two hits apiece.
* Jordan Powell worked four innings and gave up two runs on three hits and fanned two in a no decision.
* Austin Hearn, Cody Adams (1-0) and Cole Ridgely pitched in relief.
