RUSTON, La. | It all came down to the final singles match of the day as
Keren Happuch Muswere picked up a 7-5, 6-7, 6-3 victory at No. 3 over Sydnee Parker as the Grambling State University women's tennis team won a thriller of Henderson State, 4-3, on Thursday at the Ruston Recreation Center Tennis Courts.
"The ladies persevered," Grambling State head coach
Kenneth Myers said. "Mentally, we needed to see ourselves come back after being down twice and having the fortitude to lift each other up for a true team victory. The ladies deserved that comeback, which is going to help us down the road at the SWAC Championships."
Henderson State (3-6) led 1-0 after doubles play as the Reddies swept the Lady Tigers heading into singles action.
Grambling State (5-11) fell behind 2-0 after Mariah Bartlett defeat
Tanyaradzwa Magunje, 6-2, 6-1, but at No. 4,
Idah Longwe kept the match close with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Lorraine Bainmataku.
Yuliia Popova events the match with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Annie Shannon.
With the match tied at 2, the last remaining matches on the court were No. 2, No. 6 and No. 3.
At No. 2, Thea Minor gave the Reddies a 3-2 advantage with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over
Bryttish Burts, but again the Lady Tigers answered as Danna Galeno bested Lorish Puluspene, 7-6, 6-1, to even the match at 3.
That left Muswere on the court and she didn't disappoint with a thrilling three-set victory to give Grambling State the win.
News and Notes:
* Grambling State has tentatively rescheduled its match with Northwestern State for Monday, April 2 at 4 p.m. at the Louisiana Tech Tennis Courts.
* The Lady Tigers also added a match with Louisiana Tech on Wednesday, April 4.

The Lady Tigers have a day off before returning to the courts as Grambling State meets Arkansas State at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Ruston Recreation Center Tennis Courts.
