GRAMBLING, La.| The Grambling State University softball was swept by Texas Southern in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the GSU Softball Complex.
Texas Southern (15-6-1 overall, 6-0 SWAC) won the opener 11-0 in five innings and took the second game, 9-1 in five innings.
Game 1 (11-0 loss)
Texas Southern took advantage of two errors in the top of the second to score four runs on no hits. They picked up five more runs in the third and two in the fourth to pick up the win.
Game 2 (9-1 loss)
Texas Southern took advantage of three errors to score five runs in the opening inning, highlighted by a Tevanae Tate a three-run homer. Texas Southern added to lead in the second inning with four runs on three hits, including a three-run homer by Sierra Valdez.
Grambling State (8-19, 0-8) picked up one run in the third after
Hailey Haynes doubled to left center to score

* In the opener, Grambling State had one hit (
Allye Hartley) and stranded a pair of base runners.

D'Maria Matthews (2-8) took the loss as she gave up 11 runs (seven earned) on eight hits, with four walks and two strikeouts in five innings.
* Lauren Rodriguez (7-0) picked up the victory with one walk and five strikeouts.
* In the second game, Grambling State finished with one run on three hits and left two on base.

Grambling State's next nine games will be on the road, as GSU returns to action on April 4 with a short trip to Ruston, La. to take on Louisiana Tech. The first pitch is set for 5 p.m.
