NATCHITOCHES, La. | Hassan Chepkwony highlighted the day for the Grambling State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams by winning the 5000m at the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational, hosted by Northwestern State, on Saturday.

Chepkwony finished with a time of 15:41.46, followed by
Aaron Koech at 16:16.64, who took second, while
Noah Rugut (16:29.54) claimed third.

In the same race on the women's side,
Halima Chepkwony placed second, with a time of 19:01.84, as teammates
Naomi Kiprop,
Priscilla Kibet and Abigael Jebet finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Kiprop crossed the line at 20:06.14, while Kibet recorded a time of 21:05.25. Jebet completed the run at 24:33.37.Â

Furqani Al-Amin finished just outside of the top five, coming in seventh in the hammer throw, with a toss of 45.45m.

On the men's side,
Wesley Love captured a second-place finish in the 800m, with a time of 1:58.58, while
Lachavius Grimes placed fourth in the 200m, at 21.67.

In the field events,
MIckey Anderson added a seventh-place finish in the shot put, with a toss of 12.25m.

The Grambling State women's team will be in action May 4-6 at the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championships in Prairie View, Texas.
