PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | The Grambling State University baseball team saw its streak of winning a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series snapped at eight after the Tigers fell to Prairie View A&M, 8-7, on Sunday afternoon at Tankersly Field.
Grambling State (16-16 overall, 9-6 SWAC), which had won eight straight conference series dating back to the 2017 season, struck first in the opening inning as
Marshawn Taylor tripled to right and scored on a wild pitch to give the Tigers a quick 1-0 lead.
Prairie View A&M (8-21, 5-10) tied the game at 1 with one run in the second, but Grambling State answered with two runs on three hits in the third to grab a 3-1 advantage.
Trevin Bolden began the frame with a base hit to left, but was out at second as
Kristian Franklin reached on a fielder's choice.
Ace Felder doubled and Taylor brought both runners in on a single to left.
The Panthers tied the game at 3 with two runs on two hits in the bottom of the frame and took a 5-3 lead with a pair of runs in the fourth.
Prairie View A&M added another run in the sixth, but the Tigers erupted for four runs on five hits and took advantage of a pair of Panther errors to grab a 7-6 lead in the seventh.
With one down in the inning, Franklin doubled to left and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Felder doubled to score Franklin and Taylor tripled, his second of the day and third of the series, to right to plate another run. Taylor scored on an error and
Cameron Shannon, who reached on an error, scored on a base hit by Torres to give Grambling State a 7-6 lead.
However, Prairie View A&M got two runs in the eighth and was able to close the door in the ninth for the victory.
Inside The Numbers
* Grambling State registered seven runs on 10 hits and left nine on base.

Marshawn Taylor led the way at the plate by going 3-for-3, with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Ace Felder (two runs scored) and
Isaiah Torres (one RBI) each had two hits.

Kristian Franklin had one hit apiece.

Anthony Hernandez started on the rubber for the Tigers and surrendered five runs on six hits, with three walks and one strikeout in three innings of work.

Andy Escano (1-2) took the loss as he gave up two runs, walked two and fanned two in 0.2 innings of work.
* Prairie View A&M plated eight runs on 12 hits, committed two errors and stranded 10 baserunners.
* Calvin Rucker, Steven Williams, Andrew Garcia and Xavier Jefferson each had two hits.
* Darrien Williams started on the mound for the Panthers and went 6.1 innings in figuring into the no-decision. He gave up six runs on eight hits, fanned seven and walked three.
* Jerson Hardit and Cristian Cooper worked in relief.
* Cristian Cooper (1-1) picked up the win in two innings of work. He walked three and struck out three.
