GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University baseball team ended the regular season on Wednesday night with a 12-1 loss to Louisiana Tech at Wilbert Ellis Field at R.W.E. Jones Park.
Grambling State (23-24) will open the 2018 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Baseball Tournament on Wednesday, May 17 at Wesley Barrow Stadium in New Orleans, La. against Mississippi Valley State.
Louisiana Tech (33-17) capitalized on six Grambling State errors to send the Tigers to their second consecutive loss.
The Bulldogs plated one run in the first inning and two more in the third to grab a 3-0 lead.
Grambling State cut the deficit to 3-1 with one run in the bottom of the third as
Ace Felder singled to begin the inning, but was out at second when
D'Quan Matthews reached on a fielder's choice.
Isaiah Torres singled to left center as Matthews advanced to third.
Marshawn Taylor grounded out to the pitcher as Matthews scored.
Louisiana Tech added two more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth, before exploding for five runs on two hits and took advantage of four Grambling State errors to extend the lead to 11-1 in the sixth inning.
The Bulldogs got a solo homer by Shelton Wallace in the seventh to push the advantage to 12-1.
Inside the Numbers
* Grambling State scored on run on four hits, with six errors and left five on base.

Isaiah Torres, for the second straight night, led the Tigers at the plate by going 2-for-4.

Garrett Smith and
Ace Felder registered one hit each.

Kerry Boykins, Jr. (3-3) took the loss as he was tagged for five runs (four earned) on five hits, with four strikeouts and four walks in four innings of work.

Kaelin Woodard,
Ryan Evans and
Daniel Wilson pitched in relief.
* Louisiana Tech recorded 12 runs on 10 hits, committed one error and stranded 15 baserunners.
* Mason Robinson and Taylor Young finished with two hits apiece.
* Tyler Follis started for the Bulldogs and didn't figure in the decision as he pitched four innings and gave up one run on three hits, fanned four and walked one.
* Ben Stiglets and Tanner Propst worked in relief.
* Ben Stiglets (1-1) earned the win with seven strikeouts and one hit in four innings pitched.
