Six named to 2017 All-Louisiana Collegiate Football Team

Kincade earns Co-Offensive Player of the Year Honors

GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University football team placed six members on the 2017 All-Louisiana Collegiate Football Team, announced Wednesday by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA).
 
Trent Scott, Devante Kincade and De'Arius Christmas picked up first-team honors, while William Waddell and Martez Carter were named to the second team. De'Aumante Johnson earned honorable mention honors. In addition to his first-team selection, Kincade was named the co-offensive player of the year, sharing the honor with LSU running back Derrius Guice.
 
Kincade guided the Tigers to an 11-2 overall record and their second-consecutive SWAC Championship last season. He went 217-of-368 passing for 2,905 yards and tossed 23 touchdowns to just four interceptions. He threw for a season-high 347 yards on 21-of-34 passing, with three touchdowns, in a victory over Texas Southern. On the ground, Kincade amassed 408 yards on 120 carries and reached pay dirt six times. Through the air, he finished with a 143.73 pass efficiency and registered 254.8 total yards per game.
 
For his collegiate career, Kincade threw for 6,011 yards in just two seasons for the Black and Gold. He was 446-of-728 passing with 56 touchdown passes and just 11 interceptions. He accounted for 811 rush yards on 228 carries and 12 scores. The Dallas, Texas native tallied 6,822 total yards of offense and averaged 262.4 per game.
 
Last season, Kincade had numerous honors, including being named the SWAC postseason and preseason Offensive Player of the Year. He was a Black College Football Finalist, STATS FCS Walter Payton Award Finalist and a BOXTOROW All-American honorable mention. Kincade also became the first two-time recipient of the Ben L. Cavil, Sr. "Big Ben" Award.
 
Scott had a 90-percent grade and registered 35 pancakes last season, with 29 knock downs in helping Grambling State capture its second straight SWAC championship. He didn't allow a sack all season and only allowed three during his four-year collegiate career.
 
Scott received numerous honors in the postseason, including All-SWAC First Team, American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) FCS Coaches' All-American Second Team and BOXTOROW All-American.
 
Christmas, who was selected to the Street and Smith All-American team last month and was recently named to the Hero Sports FCS All-American First Team, earned several accolades in helping the Tigers to a back-to-back Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship last season. The Vicksburg, Miss. native was a STATS FCS All-American Third team honoree, a BOXTOROW All-American, SBN All-American and SWAC Defensive Player of the Year.
 
Last year, led the Tigers defensively with 88 tackles, including 48 solo stops. He has 17.5 tackles for a loss of 61 yards and five sacks for a loss of 31 yards. Also, he has added five quarterback hurries, two pass breakups and two forced fumbles.
 
Waddell, an All-SWAC First-Team selection and a member of the BOXTOROW All-American Second Team, had an 85-percent grade in all 13 games. He had 28 pancakes and 23 knock downs, with no sacks. 
 
Carter rushed for 854 yards on 167 carries and 10 scores last season, including a season-long 76 touchdown run in the State Fair Classic against Prairie View A&M. He caught 33 balls out of the backfield for 449 yards and a pair of scores. He also accounted for 72 points in the 13 games played. He had numerous honors, including being named to the All-SWAC postseason and preseason First Teams, and was selected a BOXTOROW All-American honorable mention.
 
For his collegiate career, Carter rushed for 2,721 yards on 401 carries and averaged 6.78 yards a carry and 71.6 yards per game. He scored 30 rushing touchdowns and added a career-long 90-yard score against California in 2015. In addition to the ground game, Carter caught 75 passes out of the backfield for 940 yards and nine touchdowns.
 
Johnson registered 33 tackles, including 28 solo stops in helping the Tigers win their second consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship. He tallied a team-high five interceptions, including three in a victory over Mississippi Valley State. He has registered six pass breakups, two blocked field goals (both against Alabama State) and two tackles for a loss of five yards.
 
For his collegiate career, Johnson finished with 36 total tackles, with 31 coming on solo tackles. He added 12 pass deflections and two pass breakups. Also, he finished with two tackles for a loss of five yards. Johnson recorded six interceptions for 75 yards and returned one for a touchdown.
 
Last season, Johnson had numerous honors, including being named to the All-SWAC First Team as a defensive back and to the BOXTOROW All-American First Team.
 
Grambling State opens the 2018 season on Saturday, Sept. 1 in Lafayette, La. against Louisiana. Kickoff from Cajun Field is set for 6 p.m.
