Ozuna nets goal in Lady Tigers’ road loss

MOSCOW, Idaho | Alyssa Ozuna converted a penalty kick in the 82nd minute, but it wasn't enough to propel the Grambling State University women's soccer team to a win as Idaho defeated the Lady Tigers, 3-1, on Friday night at the Kibbie Dome inside the Kibbie-ASUI Activity Center.
 
The Vandals (1-2) broke the 0-0 tie in the 13th minute as Myah Merino and Maddie Haas assisted on Morgan Crosby's goal to give Idaho a 1-0 advantage.
 
In the 33rd minute, the Vandals doubled the scoreline as Kayla Watanabe (assisted by Natalie Fischer) found the back of the net, beating Grambling State goalkeeper Hannah Johnson to increase the Idaho lead to 2-0.
 
Idaho put the game away just three minutes into the second half when Crosby netted her second goal to give the Vandals a 3-0 advantage.
 
The Lady Tigers (1-2-0) got one back in Vandals goalkeeper Makayla Presgrave was whistled for a foul inside the penalty area in the 82nd minute. Ozuna's penalty kick beat Presgrave to the left, cutting the deficit to 3-1 with eight minutes remaining.
 
Turning Point
For the third consecutive game, Grambling State conceded the first goal as the Vandals notched the opening goal in the 13th minute and doubled the advantage in the 33rd minute.
 
Despite heading into the break trailing 2-0, the Lady Tigers surrendered the third goal just three minutes into the second half.
 
Inside the Numbers
> Hanna Johnson started in goal for the Lady Tigers and played 45 minutes in the net, recording one save.
> Rita Siaha finished the final half in goal and registered one save.
> Makayla Presgrave tallied five saves for Idaho.
> Grambling State finished with nine shots, including seven in the second half.
> Idaho recorded nine shots, with four coming in the first half.
> The Vandals led the way in corner kicks with a 4-1 advantage.
> There were 33 fouls between the two teams (Grambling State – 12).

> This was the first-ever meeting between Grambling State and Idaho.
