GSU opens indoor track season in Houston

HOUSTON, Texas | The Grambling State University men's and women's indoor track & field teams opened its season on Friday at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational, hosted by the University of Houston.
 
Both teams began the season strong, with the women earning the day's top highlight. Victoria Walter won the triple jump, while Naomi Kiprop and Priscilla Kibett placed third and fourth in the 3,000m.
 
WOMEN'S TRACK
> In the 200m, Jeunice Maxime' placed sixth, with a time of 26.38, while teammates Erin Goree and Christiaun Washington were ninth and 10th.
> Angelica Brown and Marrisa Stove finished third and fifth, respectively, in the 400m
> In the 800m, Winny Chirchir placed fifth (2:43.72)
> Breanna Wayne finished fourth in the 60m hurdles, with a time of 9.24
 
WOMEN'S FIELD
> Jada Johnson did not qualify in the high jump
> In the high jump, Serena Jimerson and Victoria Walter finished 10th and 12th, respectively, while Aliyah Campbell placed 15th
> Aneisha Bell was eighth, followed by Darnese Woods in ninth in the shot put
> In the weight throw, Bell placed seventh, with Woods taking 13th
 
MEN'S TRACK
> In the 200m, Jonathon Sawyer finished sixth (22.09), Shamyron Morrison 10th, Frederic Green 13th, Evan Chambers 18th and Rudolph Valentine 21st
> Devyn Deckard placed fourth (50.47) in the 400m
> Aaron Koech was eighth in the 800m
> In the 3,000m, Noah Rugut finished fifth (9:36.43), while Bryson Bradford was seventh
> Elijah Johnson placed fifth (9.23) in the 60m hurdles, with teammate Albert Cain taking sixth (10.00)
 
MEN'S FIELD
> In the long jump, Rudolph Valentine placed fifth at 6.25m, while Roderick Atkinson finished 10th
> Atkinson recorded a second-place finish in the triple jump at 12.84m
> In the shot put, Nicholas LaGarde was 15th
> In the weight throw, LaGarde placed eighth

Grambling State returns to action on Jan. 18 and 19 at the Samford Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.
