CLINTON, Miss. l Only a week and a half after winning the 8000m and 5000m race, respectively, at the Lois Davis Invitational, both Mathias Cheboi and
Naomi Kiprop of the Grambling State University men's and women's cross country teams won their individual race at the 2019 Southwestern Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships on Monday.
Averaging a 5:10.7 mile, Cheboi finished with a time of 25:44.20, followed by teammate Fred Chepyegon coming in second place at 25:47.90. Aaron Koech completed the race in fifth, at 26:30.80. Overall the men's team placed second with a total of 77 points. Texas Southern won the meet with 43 points.
Kiprop, who averaged a 5:59.3 mile, recorded a time of 18:36.03.
Priscilla Kibet came in 14th, with a time of 20:20.33.The women's team placed sixth overall with a total of 132 points. Alabama State won the meet with 46 points.
