Gaston and Moss lead Grambling State in big win over Ecclesia College

Box Score GRAMBLING, La. l Eight of the Grambling State men's basketball team players scored points in double digits as the Tigers (2-0) defeated Ecclesia College (0-2), 147-52 on Friday at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.

Led by head coach Donte Jackson, both Anthony Gaston Jr., and Prince Moss finished the night with 22 points a piece (combining for nine boards- Gaston with five and Moss with four) followed by Tra'Michael Moton with 17, Kelton Edwards with 16, Devante Jackson and Terreon Randolph recording 14 each, while Travon Bunch and Ivy Smith, Jr. combined for 20 points, each tallying 10 points.  Randolph was one rebound away from notching a double-double, who paced his team with nine.

Deondre Phillips of Ecclesia registered 19 points along with a solo rebound and Zachary Mcgee recorded 12 with four rebounds.

In the first half of the game, Grambling State went on a 14-0 run, before Ecclesia entered the scoring column from a three-pointer by Drew Cone. Throughout the half, the Tigers kept its momentum going.

By the 4:36 mark, Gaston had led his team with 12 points, followed by Jackson and Edwards with 10. At the time, the scoreboard had read 62-17.

At halftime, Grambling State held a 49-point lead over Ecclesia, 75-26.

In the second half of the contest, the Tigers continued with the same energy and efforts as tip-off, going on another large scoring run, this time for 12 points, at the 14:38 mark. By then, the score was 95-31. Phillips free throw shot added to Ecclesia's score and opened the opportunity for more points.

Grambling State, who held the lead of the game for 39 minutes and 27 seconds, never left an opening for Ecclesia to recover and to change the narrative of the game.  In the final five minutes of the game, while Ecclesia scored five more points in the half than Grambling State did, the Tigers were able to secure their second win of the season.

Grambling State will play four games on the road, with their first against Southeastern Louisiana University, in Hammond, La., on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
