ATLANTA, Ga. | Grambling State University equipment manager
George Stubbs was named 2019 SWAC Alumni Association Charles "Chuck" Prophet Wagon Master. Stubbs was honored at today's annual Legends Roast and Awards Dinner in Atlanta at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in downtown Atlanta. Legendary Jackson State golf coach and NFL running back Eddie Payton, a member of the SWAC Hall of Fame, was the guest of honor for this roast.
The annual event is in conjunction with the Celebration Bowl; a bowl game reserved for the winners of the SWAC and MEAC.
"Anytime you receive this type of award and is a true honor," said Stubbs. "Just being able to touch the young people and trying to steer them in a positive direction is exactly how I operate. I always feel you should give back as we have been given to."
This award honors the memory of Chuck Prophet, the long-time Sports Information Director and Athletics Director at Mississippi Valley State University. It is presented annually to an employee of a conference member institution who best exemplifies Chuck's spirit, dedication and loyalty to his school and SWAC.
"George is one of the most dedicated professionals to his craft I know," said Grambling's Director of Athletics,
Dr. David Ponton. "He truly embodies the tradition, pride and excellence of his mentor Chuck Dawson."
"Being an alumnus of this conference is important, and it feels great to be honored as a SWACÂ Alumni Association legend," said Stubbs.
In 1999, Stubbs received his bachelor's degree from Grambling State University, then continued on to receive his master's degree in 2002.
