Hall collects 100th coaching win at HBCU Classic

 OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. | Grambling State University head softball coach Nakeya L. Hall entered the weekend just one victory shy of her 100th for her collegiate coaching career and the Lady Tigers were able to provide it with a 7-5 win over Lincoln (Mo.) during the opening game of the HBCU Classic and completed the day with a 12-5 victory over Langston on Friday.
 
How It Happened vs. Lincoln (Mo.)
Grambling State raced out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Rikkelle Miller hit a two-RBI double to give the Lady Tigers an early lead.
 
GSU plated a run in the third, but Lincoln answered with two in the bottom of the frame to cut the deficit to 3-2.
 
The Lady Tigers added a run in the fourth and one more in the sixth before the Lady Lions answered with a run in the bottom half of the sixth as Grambling State took a 5-3 advantage into the seventh.
 
Both teams plated two runs in the seventh as Camryn Pryor was called out at the plate to end the Lincoln rally.
 
Inside the Numbers
> Grambling State finished with seven runs on 14 hits and stranded seven baserunners
> Rikkelle Miller had the hot bat for the Lady Tigers, going 3-for-4, including a solo home run, four RBIs and two runs scored
> Tyler Robinson also went 3-for-4, with two runs scored and one RBI, while Tia Coleman was 2-for-4, with a run scored
> Tyra Triplett, Kenyshae Beasley, Anaiyah Fultz, Morgan Adams, Tayler Lenz-Selvera and Versace Hicks-Butler each recorded one hit
> D'Maria Matthews picked up the win as she gave up five runs on seven hits, walked four and fanned four in 7.0 innings.
> Lincoln plated five runs on seven hits and left four on base
> Jordan Lawson, Camryn Pryor and Rachael Balke each registered two hits
> Shannon Greene took the loss in 7.0 innings pitched. She surrendered seven runs on 14 hits, with five strikeouts and one walk
 
Up Next
Saturday's games at the HBCU have been cancelled due to extreme weather conditions. Grambling State returns to action on Saturday, March 9 in the HBCU Division I Tournament against Maryland Eastern Shore and Savannah State in Acworth, Ga.
