Grambling State drops midweek game to JSU

JACKSON, Miss. | The Grambling State University baseball team scored two runs in the second inning, but could not hold on as Jackson State exploded for seven runs over the next two innings and cruised to the 10-2 victory on Tuesday night at Braddy Field.
 
Grambling State (10-10) dropped the two-game non-conference series to JSU with Tuesday night's loss.
 
How It Happened
Grambling State opened the scoring with a pair of runs on two hits to grab a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
 
Drexler Macaay, the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Hitter of the Week, singled to begin the frame and advanced to second on a walk to Garrett Smith. Both runners advanced a base on a passed ball. Trevin Bolden grounded out to second to plate Macaay and Smith scored on a Michael Sookdeo single up the middle.
 
Jackson State (9-14) answered with three runs on three hits in the bottom half of the inning to take a 3-2 lead.
 
JSU extended the lead in the bottom of the third to 7-2 after plating four runs on four hits and took advantage of one error.
 
Jackson State put the game away with three runs in the eighth.

> Grambling State finished with two runs on seven hits, committed two errors and left seven on base
> Drexler Macaay and Michael Sookdeo each went 2-for-4
> Ian Bailey, Isaiah Torres and Trevin Bolden collected one hit apiece
> Andy Escano took the loss as he was tagged for seven runs on eight hits, with two walks and one strikeout in three innings of work
> JC Bonilla, Kevin Whitaker, Jr. and Jamary McKinney pitched in relief
> Jackson State finished with 10 runs on 13 hits and stranded nine on base
> Jalylyn Williams led JSU at the plate by going 4-for-5, with a run scored
> Joshua Swartz started on the mound and gave up two runs on two hits, walked two and struck out one in 1.1 innings of work
> Mario Lopez and Kevin Perez worked the final 7.2 innings in relief
