GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University softball team fight hard in the opener of a doubleheader Saturday against Alcorn State, but came up short in a pair of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) games at the GSU Softball Complex.
The Lady Tigers (12-12 overall, 0-6 SWAC) jumped out to an early lead in Game 1, but could not hold off the Lady Braves as Alcorn State (5-14, 3-3) took the opener 12-9. In Game 2, the Lady Braves led from start to finish in a 12-3 victory.
How It Happened – Game 1
Grambling State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but Alcorn State scored seven runs in between the second and third innings to take a 7-3 advantage.
The Lady Braves scored two in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth, while the Lady Tigers continued to try to rally with three in the fourth and three in the fifth, but could not get any closer in the 12-9 loss.

> Grambling State finished with nine runs on nine hits, committed six errors and stranded seven on base

Ja'Lynn Bonner (3-3) pitched seven innings and took the loss. She gave up 12 runs (four earned) on 12 hits, with six walks and one strikeout
> Alcorn State finished with 12 runs on 12 hits, with five errors and eight left on base
> Amari Ramsey led the way at the play by going 3-for-3, with four runs scored and two RBIs, while Desirea Lindsey went 2-for-4, with two RBIs and one run scored
> Paige Taylor (3-6) started in the circle and gave up nine runs (three earned) on nine hits, with four strikeouts and a pair of walks in 4.2 innings pitched
> Ambria Dorsey earned her first save in 2.1 innings in relief
How It Happened – Game 2
Alcorn State led 3-0 after three innings and scored three more runs in the half of the fourth.
Grambling State cut the deficit to 6-3 with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, but the Lady Braves put the game away with a four-run fifth and added two more in the seventh for the 12-3 victory.
