PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | The Grambling State University baseball team pounded out 12 hits and took advantage of three Prairie View A&M errors as the Tigers outlasted the Panthers, 13-11, in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game on Saturday at Tankersley Field.
Grambling State (7-7 overall, 4-1 SWAC) have taken the first two games of the series and will look for its first SWAC series sweep since 2017 (Southern – April 14-15).
How It Happened
Prairie View A&M jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, but Grambling State responded with six runs on four hits and took advantage of two errors to grab a 6-2 advantage in the top of the second.
Rafael Ramirez III began the frame with a base hit to right and moved to second on a
Garrett Smith walk.
Jahmoi Percival singled as Ramirez scored.
Drexler Macaay walked to load the bases and
Kristian Franklin reached on an error, which allowed Smith to score.
Kevin Whitaker, Jr. reached on a fielder's choice as Percival was out at third.
Ian Bailey continued his hot streak at the plate with a double center to plate Macaay and Franklin.
Isaiah Torres followed with a base hit to left as Whitaker scored. A balk scored Bailey to give the Tigers a 6-2 lead.
The Panthers answered in the bottom of the second with four runs to tie the game at 6.
Grambling State plated one run in the third, but Prairie View A&M scored five in the bottom of the inning to grab an 11-7 lead.
The Tigers took the lead for good with a five-run sixth.
With one down in the inning, Torres doubled to right center and scored on a
Richard Ortiz single to center. Ramirez and Smith walked to load the bases.
Jalin McMillan singled to right center to plate Ortiz. With two down, Franklin hit a bases-clearing double to give Grambling State a 12-11 lead.
The Tigers added a run in the seventh when Bailey was hit by a pitch and scored on an Ortiz double.

> Tyler Laux (1-2) took the loss in relief. He surrendered seven runs on eight hits, fanned four and walked three
> Cameron Cooper worked 2.2 innings in relief
