HOUSTON, Texas | The Grambling State University softball team concluded its three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series on Saturday with a 10-2 loss in five innings to Texas Southern at Memorial Park.
How It Happened
Grambling State (14-18 overall, 2-10 SWAC) struck for one run in the top half of the first inning.
Edwenia Foster walked with one out and moved to second on a passed ball. She advanced to third on a
Rikkelle Miller ground out.
Tia Coleman was hit by a pitch to put runners on the corners with two outs. Coleman stole second and moved to third on an error as Foster scored from third to give GSU a quick 1-0 lead.
Texas Southern (12-21, 10-0) responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame and added one run in the second to grab a 3-1 advantage.
A Madi Marek two-run homer with two outs highlighted the third inning as Texas Southern extended the lead to 5-1.
Grambling State got a run back in the fourth as Miller singled to begin the frame. Coleman followed with a base hit to left as
Asli Strozier, who pinch ran for Miller, moved to second.
Tayler Lenz-Selvera singled to right center to score Strozier as Coleman was out at the plate as GSU cut the deficit to 5-2.
Texas Southern plated three runs in the bottom of the frame to increase the advantage to 8-2.
TSU won the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth.
