GRAMBLING, La. | A school-record total of 52 Grambling State University student-athletes earned their degrees on Friday morning at the university's 2019 Spring commencement at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
 
Among the graduates, Jalen Heath, a member of the Grambling State baseball team, was the school's Valedictorian. Heath, a three-time Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) All-Academic Team member, earned top honors with a 3.98-grade point average. The Colorado Springs, Colo. native plans to pursue a career as an accountant.

Two student-athletes, Seth Edwards and Kaitlin Pardy, double majored. Edwards, a member of the football team, majored in Computer Information Systems and Management, while Pardy, who was a part of the 2018 Grambling State women's soccer SWAC regular season championship game, majored in Psychology and Criminal Justice.
 
"We are excited that our student-athletes are graduating and about to embark on a new journey," Grambling State Director of Athletics and VP for Student Affairs Dr. David Ponton said. "We appreciate what you've done. At this particular point, all the blood, sweat and tears; the happiness and crying, all of that means nothing without you guys doing what you've been able to accomplish inside and outside the classroom, which is graduate. That is the end goal and we wish you nothing but the best as you gear up to step foot off this outstanding campus."
