Box Score SHREVEPORT, La. | The Grambling State University women's soccer team opened their season in the win column with a victory over LSU-Shreveport. The defending Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Champions took the victory with a pair of goals in the second half on Thursday morning at The Swamp.
"I thought we started out the game hot and created chances, but then LSUS fought back to earn control midway through the first half and had some really good scoring chances which resulted in some tense moments, and a big upper v save from Hanna Johnson," Head Coach Justin Wagar said. "Sarah Teubner's goal was a great shot from 25 yards out for the eventual game winner. The first few weeks of the season is a big learning process for teams. We're still learning our strengths and weaknesses as a team. So today's game was a good opportunity to learn and grow."
The Lady Tigers (1-0-0) controlled the pace in the first 20 minutes of the first half with many opportunities to score, but failed to put the ball in the net. The Pilots (0-1-0) took control the remainder of the first half, but no goals were scored as the game went into the half, 0-0.
The Lady Tigers came out strong in the second half and took the lead at the 59th minute with a goal from junior transfer Teubner, assisted by freshman Laila Loring. With four minutes remaining, Loring put the game away with a shot to the far corner assisted by sophomore Kailey Pena.

Grambling State will have its home opener against The University of Louisiana-Monroe on Friday. The match is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. at the GSU Soccer Complex.
