Box Score DENTON, Texas | Grambling State University's women's soccer team was defeated on the road by North Texas, 1-0, as the Mean Green extended their home winning streak to 22 games.
Redshirt-freshman, Rachel Pugh was able to get 10 saves in the match-up.
"It took us a while to adjust to how aggressive they were and to be able to handle the pressure," head coach Justin Wagar said. "Our inability to rise to the occasion was what let to us going down 1-0 in the match. They peppered us with shots throughout the game, many of them from outside the 18 which is fine. We didn't build possession and hold the ball long enough to get numbers into the attack to go forward as a team."
North Texas (5-2), the three time back-to-back defending Conference USA Champions got their lone goal in the 17th minute by freshman forward Allie Byrd after a shot from about 10 yards away. With the victory, North Texas was able to shutout their second straight opponent.
"Redshirt-freshman Rachel Pugh played an excellent game in goal, making some clutch saves at the top of her box and then a few great diving saves to prevent goals on the line. She stepped up and played solid in goal and had 10 saves on the night."
GSU had a few opportunities late in the game to give them a chance to tie things up including a free kick from 25 yards out in the final four minutes right in front of the goal, but the shot was deflected off the top of the wall into the box and the Lady Tigers were unable to put the rebound attempt on frame.
