Second half lead slips away as Grambling falls to Jackson State

Box Score JACKSON, Miss. |  Grambling started off hot with an 8-0 run to open the game and led for most of the afternoon, but Jackson State closed the game on a 12-0 run en route to a 61-46 victory at the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. The loss is the Lady Tigers' sixth in a row.

Grambling (2-16, 1-6 SWAC) came out on fire, scoring the first eight points of the game against the number one team in the conference. Jackson State closed the gap to just one point at the end of the quarter, but the Grambling Lady Tigers closed out the half with a two-point leads thanks to superb play from Justice Coleman who had 13 points and six rebounds at the break.

Both teams struggled from behind the arc all afternoon as Grambling shot 4-of-13 (31 percent) while Jackson State shot 2-of-18 (11 percent) from downtown.

The Lady Tigers of Grambling made a crucial 10-4 run in the third quarter, but Jackson State climbed all the way back to outscore Grambling 15-13 in the quarter as they tied the ball game at 36 points apiece heading into the final stanza.

The turning point in the game came in the fourth quarter when the Lady Tigers of Jackson State outscored Grambling 25-10, including a 12-0 to end the game. Grambling shot 3-of-10 from the field while Jackson State hit 8-of-14 shots in the quarter. Grambling's Coleman finished with a team-high 17 points and grabbed a total of nine rebounds while fellow Lady Tiger Jemiah Harrison chipped in with 12 points and six rebounds in the loss.
Candice Parramore finished with nine points and three rebounds against Jackson State.
Candice Parramore added nine points and two rebounds for Grambling.

As a team Grambling committed 18 turnovers while Jackson State produced 11 of their own.

The Lady Tigers were led by Dayzsha Rogan who finished with a team-high 15 points in the victory while teammate Summer Williams added 12 points and nine rebounds for Jackson State.

The Lady Tigers continue conference play on Saturday, February 1 as they travel to Arkansas to face Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Tip-off against the Lady Lions is set for 5 p.m. at H. O. Clemmons Arena in the first of two games of the SWAC doubleheader. The men's game will follow shortly after.
