1/26/2020 12:28:00 PM

Box Score JACKSON, Miss. |  The Grambling Tigers got behind early on the road and trailed by 20 points at the break, eventually falling to Jackson State by the score of 71-53 at the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. The loss is the Tigers' fourth in a row.

With 13:25 left to play in the first half, Grambling (9-11, 3-4 SWAC) took a one-point lead on a bucket from Devante Jackson. From that moment on, Jackson State went on a 27-6 run to end the half and never looked back, extending their lead to as much as 23 points in the latter half. However, the Tigers rallied back and closed the deficit to single digits late in the second half, but it was simply too little too late. Grambling outscored Jackson State 37-35 in the latter half.

The Tigers were led by senior point guard Ivy Smith, Jr. who finished with a team-high 14 points and added two assists and two rebounds in the loss while Jackson produced nine points and six rebounds. Smith was marvelous as he attacked the basket all afternoon and nailed 9-of-12 of his free throws.

Cameron Christon chipped in with eight points and six boards while teammate Trevell Cunningham added seven points and five rebounds for Grambling.

As a team Grambling committed 13 turnovers while Jackson State produced 11 of their own.

The Tigers were led by the SWAC's leading scorer, Tristan Jarrett, who finished with a game-high 20 points in the victory and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the foul line.
