GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambling State University Department of Athletics recently hosted its Athletics Orientation for the entire student-athlete population. This was the first year that the Grambling athletics department hosted the event virtually via Zoom. Grambling State University President Rick Gallot gave the greetings and initial welcome to the student-athletes followed by GSU Director of Athletics and Vice President for Student Affairs
Dr. David Ponton, who gave his annual vision for his GSU athletes as the leader of the athletics department.
Grambling State University's new Senior Woman Administrator and Sr. Associate Athletics Director,
Merlene Aitken-Smith, was in charge of introducing the athletics staff including administrative staff and coaches.
Senior softball outfielder and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Vice President Morgan Adams took the lead role among her peers.
"My thoughts on the virtual orientation is that it went really well with everything going on right now," said Adams.
She was responsible for giving the overview of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, introducing introducing the SAAC Representatives, who can be found below.
The Monroe native added, "it was great to have the closest thing to normalcy seeing all the coaches and fellow student-athletes. I'm very thankful for all the administration and all the people working behind the scenes for the event to happen and happen successfully. I'm very excited for this upcoming season and think it will be a great and winning year for all of us Tigers!"
