Box Score NEW ORLEANS, La. | The Grambling State University baseball team dismantled the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff 10-0 in their season opener in game one of the 2020 Andre Dawson Classic.

Grambling (1-0) starting pitcher Mark Luna (1-0) was nearly flawless from the mound, striking out 10 Golden Lion batters while giving up just three hits and no runs in six innings of work. The junior from Alvin, Texas was almost untouchable as he led his team to their first victory of the season.

"He did a great job of pounding the strike zone with first pitch strikes," said head coach James Cooper. He finished the game with 10 K's so that lets us know how efficient he was. We are going to need more of that as the season unfolds."

Senior infielder Rafael Ramirez, III produced a grand slam and finished with four RBI while redshirt junior outfielder Ian Bailey and senior infielder Michael Sookdeo both scored two runs apiece in the win.

"We didn't swing the bats well enough to my liking," explained Coach Cooper. "But we did get the three timely hits with runners in scoring position last night. It's not always about how many hits you get, it's when you get them."
