Lady Tigers lose 65-58 heart breaker to Prairie View

Grambling loses late 4th quarter lead

Box Score PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | Despite leading by one point late in the fourth quarter, the Grambing State University women's basketball team fell 65-58 to Prairie View A&M University at the William Nicks Building in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.

Grambling (3-20, 2-10 SWAC) got behind early on the road and trailed by 10 points at the end of the opening quarter and eventually found themselves down 13 at the half. However, the Lady Tigers picked up the slack in the second half and even gained a 1-point lead late in the fourth quarter, but could not score a basket in the final minutes of the ball game.
Justice Coleman finished with a game-high 18 points against Prairie View.
The Lady Tigers were led by junior Justice Coleman who finished with a game-high 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field. The Baton Rouge native went 4-of-5 from the foul line and also added five assists, four steals and three rebounds in the loss. Teammate Ariel Williams chipped in with nine points while fellow Lady Tiger Candice Parramore produced five points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals for Grambling.

Mylashia Yancy finished with two and four rebounds against Prairie View. 

Prairie View was led by Dominique Newman who finished with a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 14 boards in the victory.

Inside the Numbers
> Grambling State shot 48 percent (21-of-44) from the floor and 72 percent (13-of-18) from the charity stripe
> Prairie View was 25-of-49 (51 percent) from the field and 10-of-18 (56 percent) from the foul line
> GSU registered 17 rebounds, including three on the offensive glass
> Prairie View pulled down 33 rebounds, with 10 coming on the offensive end
> The Lady Tigers finished with 28 points in the paint, 24 bench points, two second-chance points and 10 fast break points
> The Lady Panthers recorded 22 points in the paint, 11 bench points, 10 second-chance points and 10 fast break points

The Lady Tigers continue conference play on Monday, February 15 as they face Texas Southern University. Tip-off against the Lady Tigers is set for 5:30 p.m. at the TSU Recreation Center in the first of two games of the SWAC doubleheader. The men's game will follow shortly after.
