Box Score HOUSTON, Texas | The Grambling Tigers fell 93-79 to Texas Southern University at the H&PE Arena in Southwestern Athletic Conference action. The game marks the Tigers' second straight loss in the Texas road trip.
Grambling (13-13, 7-6 SWAC) went back and forth with Texas Southern thanks to a monster first half from senior center
Devante Jackson who produced 20 out of his team's 34 first-half points as his team trailed by just four at the break. However, Texas Southern poured on 55 second-half points and Grambling simply could not get stops down the stretch.
The Tigers generated four scorers in double-figures, including Jackson (22 points),
Prince Moss (11 points),
Ivy Smith, Jr. (16 points) and
Kelton Edwards (22 points). Jackson buried 4-of-8 from behind the arc while Edwards hit 2-of-4 from 3-point range. Smith, Jr. was one assist shy of a double-double and also grabbed five rebounds in the loss.
The Tigers were led by Tyrik Armstrong and Divonte Lumpkin who both finished with 21 points in the win. Armstrong was 3-of-3 from downtown, including a shot at the buzzer from near mid-court to end the first half. As a team, Texas Southern committed just six turnovers on the night to 14 for Grambling.
