Lady Tigers fall to Jackson State in Grambling

Grambling scores just 3 points in the 2nd quarter

Box Score GRAMBLING, La. | The Grambing State University women's basketball team fell 82-59 to Jackson State University at the Fredrick C Hobdy Assembly Center in Southwestern Athletic Conference action. The game marks the third straight loss for the Lady Tigers.

Grambling (3-22, 2-12 SWAC) trailed early in the game as Jackson State opened the game on a 15-0 run. Minutes later, Grambling answered back with a 15-4 run to bring the score to 19-15 at the end of one.

The shooting woes then got the best of the Lady Tigers as they managed just three points in the second quarter. Grambling was outscored 19-3 in the quarter and trailed by 20 points at the break.

Grambling was led by Alexus Holt who finished with a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 boards while teammate Justice Coleman scored 10 points and grabbed three rebounds in the loss. As a team the Lady Tigers struggled from the floor, shooting just 27 percent from the field on the afternoon.

Brandi Washington, Ariel Williams and Candice Parramore each chipped in with nine points apiece for Grambling.

Jackson State was led by Ameshya Williams who finished with 21 points and 16 rebounds while teammate Dayzsha Rogan finished with a game-high 23 points in the win.

> Grambling State shot 27 percent (15-of-56) from the floor and 74 percent (25-of-34) from the charity stripe
> Jackson State was 29-of-64 (45 percent) from the field and 18-of-29 (62 percent) from the foul line
> GSU registered 28 rebounds, including 12 on the offensive glass
> Jackson State pulled down 44 rebounds, with 17 coming on the offensive end
> The Lady Tigers (GRAM) finished with 22 points in the paint, 30 bench points, 12 second-chance points and 22 fast break points
> The Lady Tigers (JSU) recorded 36 points in the paint, 20 bench points, 21 second-chance points and 18 fast break points

Following Mardi Gras break, the Lady Tigers continue conference play on Saturday, February 29 as they host Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Tip-off against the Lady Lions is set for 3 p.m. at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center in the first of two games of the SWAC doubleheader. The men's game will follow shortly after.
