Box Score HOUSTON, Texas | Grambling produced a total of four scorers in double figures and outscored Texas Southern 39-31 in a crucial 78-72 victory in Southwestern Athletic Conference action at the HP&E Arena.
"Before the game I told our guys that Texas Southern us one of the most talented teams in the league and we have to bring our A game walking into the gym," said head coach Donte Jackson. "We really needed to do a great job with defensive rebounds and limiting their transition points. I also told my squad that we needed to attack the basket and try to score the ball inside out."
Redshirt junior
Cameron Christon, who just tied a career-high with 24 points in the last SWACÂ game for the Tigers, scored a game-high 18 points including 3-of-6 from long range. The Allen, Texas native also pulled down six boards and dished out three assists while post player
Sarion McGee added a solid 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field. The redshirt sophomore from Milwaukee, Wis. knocked down all four of his free-throw attempts in the win.
"We went down six with just under three minutes left when I told our guys that we practice to get defensive stops, and our guys responded with exactly that; defensive stops late in the game," said Coach Jackson. "We also executed at the offensive end and then came up with two critical steals that helped secure the win."
Junior sharp-shooter
Peyton Taylor had his best performance in SWAC play and chipped in with 11 big points while connecting on 2-of-3 three-pointers and added two steals while fellow senior TigerÂ
Kelton Edwards produced 10 points and buried all four of his foul shots for Grambling.
