GRAMBLING, La. | Grambling State University Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics,
Dr. Trayvean Scott, announced on Monday the addition of Denzel Lewis as the Director of Student-Athlete Development and Associate Director of Student-Athlete Academic Services.

"We are excited to welcome Mr. Lewis in joining our team," Scott said. "He is a rising star in the industry and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, both as a former student-athlete and a professional. He is known for his ability to connect with the student-athletes and coaches. We are eager to utilize his skill set as we continue to move our unit forward."

Lewis, a native of Baton Rouge, La., comes to GSU from Southern University.

While at Southern, Lewis was the Assistant Director of Athletic Academics and was responsible for overseeing Academic Support Services for the men's and women's track & field/cross country, the women's soccer and men's baseball programs. In addition, he was over student-athlete development and community engagement.

While in the position, Lewis initiated various men and women seminars that covered topics as
Financial Literacy,
Mental Health, Overcoming the Odds and
Preparing for Life After College. He passion for giving back exuded through efforts provided for student athletics to become active in the Scotlandville community.

Before entering collegiate athletics, Lewis spent nearly two years coaching high school football at his alma mater, Scotlandville High School while mentoring young adults at Thrive Academy in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Lewis, who believes in working hard, seizing the moment and family, earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from Prairie View A&M University and his Master of Science degree in Sports Management from Louisiana State University. Recently, he obtained the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace Certification from the University of South Florida and was the 2021 N4A Opportunities Scholarship Recipient.
